West Park Church - History

History

In 1961 a group of believers from local Fellowship Baptist churches, sensing the need and having a vision for an evangelical church in the newly-developing northwest area of London, met for prayer to seek God’s guidance in this matter.  Out of this initial meeting West Park was born!  The first Sunday morning services were held at Oakridge Secondary School, while Sunday evening services were held in a home.

Shortly thereafter the land for our Royal York Road church location was purchased, and our first building was dedicated in October 1966.  From our very beginning, global missions and ministry to children and students were strong emphases of our church.  This focus spurred on our growth, and in 1975 the first addition was opened.  A second and final addition to the Royal York site was added in 1978 and well-served our congregation until the summer of 2007.

In the fall of 1981 we had strategically purchased the Hyde Park farm property for future development as a ministry centre for families and students.  Our long-term goal was to relocate our main campus to this site, a move that we believed would give us an increased ministry of outreach and discipleship.

We praise God that on Sunday, September 21, 2007, we held our official opening and service of dedication at our new facility on Gainsborough Road.  We are greatly encouraged to be located in this rapidly growing, robust section of northwest London.
